We are parents and individuals who know the fear of living with a child suffering from an eating disorder. We believe that the treatment available in Canada is not enough and have joined together to create an intensive treatment center for adolescents. It is our belief that a safe secure facility is conducive to healing and strengthening the will to overcome this insidious disorder. Too many young women have already given up too much of their lives fighting this battle.
WHAT
- A facility to treat adolescents suffering with Eating Disorders. It can be the first Center in Canada for adolescent treatment and the research of Eating Disorders.
WHERE
- The natural beauty of British Columbia offers unlimited potential. We are committed to the development of a medically safe facility located in a rural setting, an empowering and fun place for young women to step out of their daily life and focus on themselves and their healing.
WHY
- Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. The annual death rate associated with Anorexia Nervosa is more than 12 times higher than that of all other causes combined for females between 15 and 24 years.
- Studies show that there is a greater success rate with early intervention.
- BC lacks the services to provide care for those that don't fall into the mandate of "treating the sickest of the sick".
WHO
- The top Eating Disorder professionals in B. C. and the United States have offered to consult and work with us to bring this project to fruition.
- Doctors, therapists and nutritionists in Vancouver recognize the need and believe that a facility can augment the service they now offer.
- Support from Dr. Laird Birmingham Director of Provincial Eating Disorders in British Columbia.
WHEN
- As soon as the licensing and assurances from the Provincial Government can be attained.
