Reflections Scholarship

The Looking Glass Foundation Scholarship program awards several thousand dollars annually to individuals who have received or are currently receiving treatment for an eating disorder, and who are ready for academic pursuit.

Reflections Scholarship Overview

The Reflections Scholarship supports students who have lived experience with an eating disorder by helping them pursue their academic and career goals through education. It is awarded in recognition of someone's strength and courage in facing their eating disorder as well as their enthusiasm and tenacity for their chosen academic path and the career they plan to follow.

Please note that The Looking Glass Foundation awards $10,000 in total, which will be split among recipients. Additionally, one scholarship recipient will receive the Elise Skoglund Bursary of $1,000.

2022 Scholarship Eligibility Criteria & Application Process

Please note that we have made some changes to the Scholarship Program effective as of the 2022 application period. Be sure to review the program flyer, eligibility criteria and application checklist listed below before you submit your application.

Who can apply:

• Residents of British Columbia 
• Full-time students (3 or more classes) enrolled in an accredited secondary or post-secondary institution in Canada, who are commencing or returning to a university or college program  starting between September 2022 - January 2023
• Enrolled in their first undergraduate degree (graduate students and students who are completing a second undergraduate degree are not eligible to apply) 
• Currently are, or have been, in treatment by a healthcare professional for an eating disorder
• Demonstrate a strong need for financial assistance in order to achieve their academic goals
• Previous Looking Glass Scholarship winners are not eligible to re-apply

When is the deadline to apply?

Wednesday, June 15th, 2022. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Step 2: Download and complete the 2022 Reflections Scholarship application form. Form requirements include your contact information, general information, Reflections essay (500-750 words) and personal statement on recovery (300-500 words).

Step 3: Download the letter of recommendation form to provide to your reference to fill out and send back to you to include in your application package. Please ensure you inform them of the application deadline.

Step 4: Download and complete the budget form.

Step 5: In addition to the forms above, please prepare the following:

• Verification of student enrolment (copy of acceptance letter, course schedule, or email/letter from Admissions) *Please see Important Note below regarding full-time status confirmation.
• Verification from a healthcare professional of having received treatment for an eating disorder (see FAQ for details)
• 2021 Notice of Assessment (see FAQ for details)

Step 6: Review the application checklist.

To be considered eligible, scholarship applications MUST include the following:

• Completed Application Form which includes your Reflections Essay and Personal Statement on Recovery (download above)
• Budget using provided form (download above)
• Letter of Recommendation from a non-family member using provided form (download above)
• Verification of student enrolment (copy of acceptance letter, course schedule, or email/letter from Admissions)*
• Verification from a healthcare professional of having received treatment for an eating disorder (see FAQ for details)
• 2021 Notice of Assessment (see FAQ for details)

*Important Note: Scholarship winners must provide verification of enrolment in full-time studies (3 or more classes) for September 2022 prior to receiving the Scholarship funding. Because many students do not register for courses until early to mid summer, full-time status confirmation will requested upon being selected as a recipient. If a recipient cannot provide such verification, they will no longer be eligible for the Scholarship and another recipient will be selected.
